Kulttuuripolku on Koneen Säätiön Saaren kartanon taiteilijaresidenssin ja Mynämäenseudun luonnonsuojeluyhdistys ry:n Mietoistenlahti – luontoelämyksiä kaikille -hankkeen yhteistyönä ideoima alle puolen kilometrin pituinen nykytaidetta esittelevä virkistysreitti.
Saaren kartanon lähiluontoon sijoittuvan Kulttuuripolku-näyttelyn teokset on tehnyt taidekollektiivi Mehiläisten seura. Kulttuuripolku on avoinna kaikille alueella liikkuville.

The garden is a mirror to the gardener and anyone visiting it, reflecting itself through them. The garden is also a place to spend time together with family, friends and partners, as well as your adversaries, and it has the power to revive and liberate. It is a place that evokes feelings without judgement, that exceeds its own limits.
Let a bee guide you closer to scents and colours, more peculiar shapes and dreamy landscapes.
The Culture Trail was designed collaboratively within the project Mietoistenlahti – Experiences in Nature for Everyone by Kone Foundation’s Saari Residence for artists and the Nature Conservation Association of the Mynämäki Region. This recreational route is less than half a kilometre long and displays contemporary art.
Located in the landscape surrounding the Saari Residence, the Culture Trail exhibition is made up of works created by the art collective Bee Company. The works exhibited at the edge of the flood meadow change with the seasons and weather and will be displayed until May 2025. The Culture Path is open to everyone.

Iso osa mehiläisten valmistamasta hunajasta on tehty mesikasteesta.

Honeydew Although oaks are wind-pollinated, they are an important tree for bees. Oaks provide a home for many little creatures, including numerous types of gall wasps that induce the tree to produce abnormal growths known as galls. Safely enclosed in these galls are gall wasp larvae, which eat the inside wall of their home.
The larvae secrete sugar-rich honeydew onto the surface of the gall that attracts bees and other insects. While insects are feasting on the honeydew, they keep the larvae safe from parasitoid wasps. To the oak tree, gall wasps are harmless guests. Much of the honey made by bees is made from honeydew.

Bees’ housing shortage Perhaps you have wondered where honeybees used to live before people started keeping them. Beekeeping- is an ancient hobby and livelihood – it goes back as far as 5,000 years and was popular in Egypt, for example. The honeybee itself is, of course, a much older species than that: they lived completely wild before humans took an interest in them.
Sometimes it happens that a swarm of bees escape their keeper and settle in a hollow tree in the forest. Such trees were the original home for beehives, and as there were so many more hollow trees in forests then than in today’s methodically managed ones, it is unlikely that bees suffered any kind of housing shortage.

In folklore there are many stories where bees and honey provide healing and nourish life, often in magic-like ways. Perhaps you can find a magical honey bee somewhere on the Culture trail? Would you like to spend some time with it, to be with the bee? Maybe even follow it for a while, buzzing together in the garden?

Maljojen kolmonen 2024-
Kaivoa ympäröivä puutarha on versiomme muotopuutarhasta.

Three of Bowls 2024–
Site-specific installation, alive with the yearly cycle: Recycled wood from the renovation of Saari Manor, found rock and wood material from Saari, rope, sail cloth, beeswax, pots, soil, various (flowering) plants mainly grown & sourced locally, weather, existing vegetation and the earth the work stands upon. Made on site by Ina Niemelä, Aino Aksenja and Ingvill Fossheim of Bee Company in June 2024.
Three of Bowls is a continuation of our work in the world of gardens; a celebration of friendship, sisterhood, and creative collaborations. We set out to build a gazebo that during the process turned into a well. It is drawn to match the size of its sister, a gazebo in Tullisaari Manor Park where we have our heartquarters. The garden surrounding it is our version of a formal garden. The well is positioned by the directions: opening to sunset in the west, its highest wall making a north arrow. During the year the work will transform, the strict geometry of a hexagon borrowed from the beehive loosening with weather and the growth of plants in and around it, the garden growing wilder.
